A credit card is a 3x2 inch plastic card issued to consumers by banks, stores, or charge companies.  The consumer's name, account number, expiration date, and issuer logo are on the card.  Microchips and/or magnetic strips (stripes) are embedded in cards for security and identification (Houghton 7-13).  The credit card advanced from travel and entertainment to one that is used to purchase groceries, clothes, and more (Hyman 150).
